ABOUT THE EXAM

The QV: The standardized cantonal examination (final apprenticeship examination) for all EBA and EFZ apprenticeships. It certifies that the apprentice is fully capable of performing the job independently in a practical setting.
The BM: The Vocational Maturity Certificate supplements an apprenticeship with a broader general education (mathematics, history, languages) and qualifies students for admission to a university of applied sciences without having to take an entrance exam.

For the QV: Expert committees evaluate the practical work (IPA/VPA) either on the job or in inter-company courses (üK). Theoretical vocational knowledge and general education (including the presentation of the in-depth project) are tested at vocational schools in Aargau (e.g., BSA, HKV Aarau).
For the BM: Includes challenging written and oral exams lasting several hours in the core subjects (German, English/French, mathematics) as well as the specialized subjects of the respective track.

The calculation: The BKS department in Aargau applies the federal weighting formula. Grades based on performance throughout the school year help offset any occasional weaknesses on exam day, as they account for 50% of the final subject grades.
Passing Threshold: The magic number is an overall grade of 4.0. In addition, the practical work (QV) or the sum of the deviations (BM) must not exceed the legally prescribed error tolerances (maximum of two failing grades).

Winter 2026–2027: Collection and validation of all QV and BM certifications by companies and schools.
May 2027: Administration of the written apprenticeship and vocational matriculation exams throughout the canton of Aargau.
June 2027: Oral exam sessions, IPA presentations, and technical discussions before the local expert panels.
Early July 2027: Official certificate presentations and apprenticeship graduation ceremonies hosted by the Aargau industry associations.

Math Abitur Prep: Targeted review of upper-level math material for BM candidates in technical and business fields.
Focus on the In-Depth Project (VA): We assist with writing and refine the presentation for the oral presentation before the experts from Aargau.
Short courses during spring break: Intensive review sessions just before exams begin in May.
