Depending on the field of study (e.g., engineering, architecture, life sciences, or business and services), the exams typically cover four to five subjects:

German & Foreign Languages: Written text analysis/essay and oral discussions on specialized topics.

Mathematics: Very challenging in the technical tracks (including geometry and calculus).

Core exams: Subject-specific exams that are often taken in a modular format on a computer or in written form.

The Interdisciplinary Project (IDPA) must be successfully defended before the exams.

The calculation: The 50/50 rule also applies in Basel (practical grade + exam grade = course grade). All grades are rounded to the nearest half or whole grade.

Passing Requirements: The federal requirements apply: an overall grade point average of at least 4.0, no more than two failing grades, and the total of negative deviations must not exceed 2.0 points.

Mid-April 2027: Deadline for IDPA submissions.

May 2027: End of regular BM classes and determination of preliminary grades.

June 2027: Written and oral sessions at the Basel and Liestal locations.

Simulation of language exams: We provide targeted training in spoken business or technical French and English for the Basel expert panels.
